You are under no obligation to sin; it has no further rights to dominate your dead declared body. Therefore let it not entice you to obey its lusts. Your union with his death broke the association with sin. (Mirror Bible)
Are you standing or giving excuses?
How often do you say, “God knows my heart?” Does it make you feel better to play the “I’m only human card” after you have allowed the enemy to get a victory? Take consolation in knowing you don’t have to allow the devil to win. You don’t have to use your humanity as a justification for not standing in the power Jesus’ death provided. It is easy to give yourself a pass, but you don’t have to. In this war, how many times will you excuse your behavior, before you are in bondage to sin, feeling like you can’t be victorious?
Romans 13:13-14 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. (New King James Version)
The way you keep the enemy from putting you in bondage is to stop making provision for your flesh. Yes, God does know you are human; He made you. He also knows what is in you. He knows you are able to withstand and be victorious because you are more than a conqueror. You are an overcomer. He has given you a way of escape, so you can bear whatever problem you have to confront.
1 Corinthians 10:13 We all experience times of testing, which is normal for every human being. But God will be faithful to you. He will screen and filter the severity, nature, and timing of every test or trial you face so that you can bear it. And each test is an opportunity to trust him more, for along with every trial God has provided for you a way of escape that will bring you out of it victoriously. (The Passion Translation)
Take the way of escape instead of giving in to sin.
Please agree with me as I pray:
Father, I thank You because sin no longer has dominion over me. I rejoice and give You praise because I am saved. Though saved, I would still make provision for my flesh, give excuses for my sin, and still take the easy way out. I gave in when the going got tough. But now, because of the time I am spending in your presence, by the blood of Jesus, I am walking as an overcomer. I stumble less, the enemy does not win as often and I take ownership of my choices. You have given me a way of escape and I am taking it when the enemy brings temptation. Now, not only do I name the name of Christ, I live a life of Christ. Now, I walk in love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance. Because of You I am not motivated and dominated by what I want, and I thank You. I gladly am ruled by what You want and command…
