Colossians 3:23
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,

Who are you working for?

Have you ever been sitting at work, doing nothing, and when you saw the boss coming your way, you started to “look like you were working”? Did you convince yourself you deserved a break? Do you work harder when you know the “important people” will review your work, than when you think they are not? Does your attitude about your boss affect how you view your job? The wonderful thing about the life of a Christian is: you don’t have to pretend you like your job; you should actually love your job!

Ephesians 6:6-7 Don’t put on a show just because they are looking (as if you were a people pleaser); but as a slave of the Anointed, do the will of God from your heart. 7 Serve them in good faith as if you were serving the Lord, not men, (The Voice)

The job you are on and the people you work with are your assignment, no matter where you are working. Whether you are in the permissive or perfect will of God, you are there. If you are a believer, God hired you; and He is in charge of Human Resources. You have heard this saying, and it’s more true for the Lord than any other business you have worked for, “The needs of the business come first”.

1 Peter 2:13-16 Submit to all the sons of men for the sake of God; to Kings, because of their authority, 14 And Judges, because they are sent by him for the punishment of wrongdoers and for the praise of the workers of good. 15 For it is the will of God in this way that by your excellent works you may shut the mouths of fools – those who do not know God, 16 As free children, and not as persons who make their liberty a cloak for their evil, but as Servants of God. (The Aramaic Bible)

You are to work, so God is pleased. Make your work decisions based on what you know God has commanded for your life, not on what has happened or is happening to you on the job.

Please agree with me as I pray:

Father, I thank You for reminding me I am working for You. It doesn’t matter if someone is or isn’t watching because I know You are. It doesn’t matter if anyone appreciates or acknowledges the work I do. I’m working for You. I repent for anytime I acted like I was working for anyone but You. Help me to always see my job as an assignment. My position or title may dictate my pay, but not govern how I perform. Your approval is all I seek. I know if I am listening, You won’t allow me to get away with being mediocre, or pass the day doing just enough. You desire excellence and I want to give You my all. Continue to use the Holy Spirit as the Facilitator of my individual development plan so my work is a testimony of You, the God I work for…
