John 4:23
But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
Are you a true worshipper?
God is continually looking for true worshippers. What is a true worshipper? If you attend services where the people are very animated, you may see those who weep, bow, prostrate themselves etc. before the Father. Being a part of that type of service may make you think you have been a part of true worship. Alternately, you may attend services where there is no animation, where there is a stillness and quietness in the atmosphere. You may think this is true worship.
Colossians 1:16b all things were created by him, and for him: (KJV)
Romans 12:1 Beloved friends, what should be our proper response to God’s marvelous mercies? I encourage you to surrender yourselves to God to be his sacred, living sacrifices. And live in holiness, experiencing all that delights his heart. For this becomes your genuine expression of worship. (The Passion Translation)
You should not confine worship to, or define worship by, a church service or a song. Worship should be your response to everything that happens in your life, good or bad reports, easy or difficult situations, when things go the way you wanted them to and when they don’t, when you are happy or when you are sad, etc. No matter what you are experiencing in your life, you are to worship. God created you for Himself and for His pleasure. Your pure worship pleases God. What is pure worship?
Sometime you may think that if you abide by the rules, regulations, and observances your church or ministry teaches, you are worshipping. Make sure it is not an attempt to please God with actions. Don’t forget who God is. He is a real Spirit who desires to commune with those He created in His image. He wants a real and honest relationship with you. That relationship can come only from your heart. Pure worship can only exist if you are truthful in all aspects with the Father.
Psalm 51:10, 12 Keep creating in me a clean heart. Fill me with pure thoughts and holy desires, ready to please you. 12 Let my passion for life be restored, tasting joy in every breakthrough you bring to me. Hold me close to you with a willing spirit that obeys whatever you say. (The Passion Translation)
You are able to worship God in spirit and truth because Jesus revealed the Truth to you. Your worship always radiates from Him. Worship focusses on who God is. It is not about what you want from Him or what he has done for you because that would make it about you, that is “praise”. There is nothing wrong with praise, just understand the difference. Everything you do, everything you say, and your every action should elevate God in the earth. You should not only think of worship as something you do; you should think of worship as something you are.
Please agree with me as I pray:
Father, I live to be a true worshiper. My desire is to be transparent before You and the world. I want to come to You naked and unashamed. I want my worship to be a sweet perfume to Your nostrils. Thank You for the truth about my creation. You brought me into this world for no other reason than to worship You. Thank You for giving me greater understanding and deeper revelation about what I should do with the truth You have made me to know. My understanding of that truth fuels my purpose. My worship is not only a song, any time or anywhere. My worship is not only a prayer, I might pray. My entire life should be worship, offered up to You. Every word I speak is worship if my words give You glory. Every decision I make is worship if I decided recognizing who You are and what You desire for me. Please keep my heart clean so my worship is true and pure…
