1 Thessalonians 5:7
Sleeping and drunkenness are typical things people do at night, but now the day of the Lord has dawned within us and has put an end to the slumbering effect and intoxication of the practices of darkness. (TMB)
What are you doing in the night?
What is it about the night that is incredibly inviting and exciting? There is behavior representative of the night. It is when scary things are the scariest, where mischief and mayhem abound. When you actually think no one is watching. When you think you can get away with anything. When you tell yourself everyone is doing something and enjoying the night.
Luke 21:34-35 “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. 35 For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth”. (New King James Version NKJV)
You are a child of the light.
Ephesians 5:8 For once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of Light [live as those who are native-born to the Light] (Amplified Bible AMP)
For you, night used to mean the darkness of the world. Now night means the time when you are not working, and it should be a time for rest and meditation. You should ponder the questions about the day and the things that happened. Was God glorified, did you take the opportunity to share Christ? Spend some moments reflecting on your life and purpose; spend some of your time in prayer and study. Seek the Lord for a clearer understanding of all you have encountered that day. Pray for His grace and mercy to complete what He has planned for your life.
Psalm 63:6-7 I lie awake each night thinking of you and reflecting on how you help me like a father. I sing through the night under your splendor-shadow, offering up to you my songs of delight and joy! (The Passion Translation TPT)
It is time to put away the things you do when you think no one is watching and live a life that can be watched.
Titus 2:7 And show your own self in all respects to be a pattern and a model of good deeds and works, teaching what is unadulterated, showing gravity [having the strictest regard for truth and purity of motive], with dignity and seriousness. (Amplified Bible, Classic Edition AMPC)
Please agree with me as I pray:
Father, I thank You for calling me out of the darkness into Your marvelous light. I repent for making choices without regard to those who might be watching me. You require me to live a life that can be watched. I will not dip and dodge, slip and slide, peep and hide. I will not live the spy life; trying to keep someone from seeing my undercover activity. I thank You for delivering me. Thank You for creating in me the desire to be a light before men. Whether I want it to be or not, my life is being watched. I want whoever is watching to see You. Thank You for the Holy Spirit, who helps me govern my actions and my speech. I will submit to instruction. I don’t want to lead anyone astray…
