What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. – Mark 10:9
When I carefully consider God's word, in the first part of the Scripture, I realized that God is both omniscient and omnipotent which means that if something is joined together is because God wants it to be joined together or He allowed it to be joined together. He had the power to keep things from being joined. There may be times when you might think that God did not join this marriage together because it was at the wrong time or the wrong set of circumstances, or that you were not ready. And you might use those excuses as the as a basis for divorce. But I believe that even if all those excuses were true, then you functioned in the permissive will of God. However, God did allow it. So, your marriage is what God joined or allowed to be joined together.
In the second part of the Scripture, the “man” whose responsibility it is not to put asunder what God has joined, is the husband and wife. The vow was made, not to each other, but the vow was made to God. And so it is the responsibility of the husband and wife to fight against anything that would put asunder what God has joined together.
